State Task Force Seeks to Lower Prison Costs
A task force looking at ways to divert offenders from prison will build on lessons learned from courts designed to handle drug and alcohol crimes and prisoner re-entry programs that have cut return rates, Gov. Jay Nixon said today.
The Missouri Working Group on Sentencing and Corrections, chaired jointly by state Rep. Chris Kelly, D-Columbia, and Sen. Jack Goodman, R-Mt. Vernon, will look at all aspects of the criminal justice system in an effort to reduce costs while holding offenders responsible for their actions, Nixon said.
